Welcome!
Welcome to the blog for the Big Knitters knitting groups! Those of you who have been to the shop will know what a lovely, friendly and relaxed environment has been created. It is hoped that the groups will be an extention of this!
There will be two groups a month. One, on a Monday evening, and one on a Saturday morning. Please see relevant posts for 2009 dates for each.
The groups will be run by me, Antonia. I am a new knitter but have been greatly encouraged by "the girls" and am happy to help where I can. Thankfully there will be expert advice available at the groups for those, like me, who are just starting out but it is hoped that it willbe nice and relaxed and we will all help each other.
As time goes on I hope people will submit photographs of finished items so that they can be proudly displayed on the blog! I will never forget the pride I felt when I knitted my first hat!! Quite an achievement and took much concentration and quite a bit of "expression" along the way!!
If people have any questions about the group you can contact me by email at;
antonia.bigknitterscardiff@ntlworld.com
or by mobile on 07974 812670
Text is great because I have unlimited texts but not minutes!!
I look forward to meeting you but meanwhile please feel free to ask questions.
Antonia's first hat!
Just to kick us off here is a piccy of my first hat! It took a whole weekend but I was really chuffed with it! I only started knitting earlier in the year and am now hooked (pun intented!)!
I am currently setting up a database of group members so if you would like to be on it please let me know your name, email address, landline and mobile number and I'll add you on! The details will only be retained by myself and the shop - just to ensure that we don't duplicate!
And finally, hope this makes you smile as much as it did me...makes me wonder if that haircut is so important after all!!

Enjoy and happy knitting!
The Saturday group is knitting for charity but we will have to charge £2 to cover costs (especially heating in the winter months!!). You can, of course, choose your own charity to knit for but "Loving hands" http://www.lovinghands.org.uk/ have a number of patterns and charities that they support, so will be one that we will be knitting for - mainly for variety and choice.
If you want to choose your own charity, or suggest one you would like added, please let me know!
The group will run from 10am until 12pm (approx!).If like me you often get to 11.30 and start to feel hungry a sandwich is handy so please feel free to bring lunch if you would like to! Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided. You may even be lucky occasionally and get cake depending on how busy I am or how much energy I have (or not as the case may be!).
The dates for 2009 are as follows;
Saturday 24th October
Saturday 21st November
We have decided not to have a December group because it's such a busy time of year...plus if you're anything like me you'll be knitting last minute presents that you meant to start months ago in time for Christmas!!
The dates for the 2009 Monday night groups are shown below. The group will meet from 7-9pm. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided and there will be a charge of £2 per person to cover costs. One of "the girls" from the shop will be there to give instruction and help!
If you are coming straight from work and would like to bring something to eat please feel free to - there is a microwave available if you need to heat something up!
